This week, we are proud and delighted to welcome another professor to MCLINIC: Dr. Elias Volkmer has been appointed Adjunct Professor (“außerplanmäßiger Professor”) by the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU).
This distinction is the result of decades of dedicated work in clinical practice, research, and teaching. The path to professorship at LMU – one of Europe’s most prestigious universities – is demanding. For an adjunct professorship, candidates must, among other criteria, publish at least two high-impact academic papers per year after completing their habilitation – a benchmark only few can meet.
Dr. Volkmer has passed this benchmark with flying colors: In the ten years since his habilitation, he has authored 33 scientific publications, including 16 as first or senior author. He has amassed over 170 cumulative impact factor points – a remarkable achievement that not only reflects his scientific excellence but also benefits LMU, as these impact points translate into performance-based funding (LOM points) for the university.
The formal review process was equally rigorous: Dr. Volkmer’s application documents were carefully evaluated by two independent reviewers over a period of one year and four months – a process that demands both academic quality and patience.
A look at his academic journey reveals the extraordinary dedication behind this achievement: Dr. Volkmer began his doctoral research back in 1998, obtained his habilitation in 2014, and has since balanced scientific research with clinical responsibilities and his work in the medical practice. Finding time for family and hobbies along the way was not always easy – which makes the joy of receiving the official certificate, signed by LMU President Prof. Dr. Bernd Huber, all the greater.
Adding to the significance of this recognition: In the latest QS World University Ranking, LMU – together with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) – has once again been ranked the best university in Germany. An adjunct professorship from such an institution is therefore not only a personal milestone, but also a mark of academic excellence at the highest level.
Dear Prof. Dr. Volkmer – our heartfelt congratulations! We are proud to have you on the MCLINIC team and celebrate this achievement with you.

We warmly congratulate Dr. Rosanna Bodmaier on obtaining her additional qualification in hand surgery! After three years of intensive additional training, she is expanding her area of expertise to include surgical and conservative treatments of the hand – from emergencies to reconstructive procedures.
PD Dr. Daniel Lonic once again traveled to Vietnam in 2025 to treat children with cleft lips and palates—a project that not only changes lives, but also strengthens local medical infrastructure in the long term.
