Hand surgery is an independent specialist discipline and requires knowledge and skills from the fields of trauma surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery and especially plastic surgery. All this knowledge must be available in order to be able to treat the entire range of possible diseases and injuries to the hand, wrist and forearm. In his function as Head of Hand Surgery and Deputy Chief Physician in the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at the LMU Clinic in Munich and Head Physician at Helios Klinikum München West, Prof. Dr. med. Volkmer has been able to acquire in-depth expertise in this complex field over the years.
