Permanent Make-Up
Permanent Make-up (PMU), also known as microblading or cosmetic tattooing, has gained increasing popularity in recent years. It is an innovative technique in which color pigments are applied with a fine needle into the upper skin layer (epidermis). There are two main application areas for this tattooing technique:
Cosmetic Permanent Make-up aims to permanently highlight or define certain facial features, making daily makeup unnecessary. It is also a valuable option for people allergic to conventional cosmetics, visually impaired individuals, or those with motor impairments. The classic cosmetic permanent make-up treatments we offer at MFORM include:
- Eyebrow pigmentation for fuller, symmetrical brows
- Eyeliner pigmentation for expressive, visually enlarged eyes and thicker lashes
- Lip contouring and shading for harmonious and voluminous lips Medical
Permanent Make-up goes beyond aesthetics and has a strong rehabilitative component. It helps people feel comfortable in their own skin again. Micropigmentation is specifically used to visually balance scars, skin changes, or missing hair, creating camouflaging or reconstructive effects. At MFORM, we offer various medical permanent make-up treatments:
- Hair pigmentation to cover bald spots on the scalp, beard, or for eyebrow reconstruction due to natural or disease-related hair loss (alopecia, chemotherapy)
- Camouflage pigmentation to cover scars, stretch marks, vitiligo, or other pigment disorders
- Areola pigmentation for nipple reconstruction
- Lip pigmentation after surgeries to correct cleft lip and palate or aesthetic lip augmentations to define the lip contour or correct asymmetries
Aesthetic and plastic surgery and permanent make-up complement each other perfectly when it comes to creating aesthetically pleasing, harmonious, and natural results.
While plastic surgery often makes structural changes to the face and body, permanent make-up can help perfect fine details and camouflage scars or missing skin pigments. Therefore, at MFORM, we also consider permanent make-up as a complementary treatment after plastic surgery, as support for aesthetic corrections, or even as an alternative to minor aesthetic procedures: For example, eyebrow permanent make-up instead of a brow lift, eyeliner permanent make-up as an alternative to eyelid surgery, or hair pigmentation instead of a hair transplant for mild hair loss.
Permanent make-up is suitable for different needs and skin types. To ensure the correct skin type and individual wishes and needs are taken into account and the best possible solution is found, a consultation and information session takes place before every treatment.
Treatment Process
A thorough and professional consultation and information session is held before each treatment. This ensures that the client has realistic expectations, the desired shape and color are individually adapted, and all questions are answered.
For a consultation without treatment with our expert Anastasiia Horbatiuk, we charge €30 (duration: approx. 20 minutes). The consultation fee will be deducted from the subsequent treatment costs if treatment follows.
Wishes and Expectations
At the beginning of the consultation, personal wishes and expectations are discussed, including questions such as:
- Which area should be pigmented?
- What shape and intensity are desired?
- Should the result look natural or emphasized?
- What does the PMU treatment cost?
Before-and-after pictures of previous treatments are used to illustrate possible results.
Skin Type Analysis
Next, the skin type is analyzed to ensure the permanent make-up perfectly matches the natural beauty. Factors like skin texture, color, and natural facial features are considered to achieve a suitable pigmentation.
Color Selection
Our expert then selects the color and shade together with the client and tests it on the skin to ensure harmony with the complexion.
Information
An important next step is information about the procedure and care. All important details about the process, healing, aftercare, durability, and touch-ups are discussed.
Medical Assessment & Consent
The last step before treatment is a medical assessment and consent. If there are pre-existing conditions, allergies, or skin issues, it will be discussed whether PMU treatment is possible. Then a consent form is signed, confirming the client has been informed about risks and care instructions.
A permanent make-up treatment follows a structured process to ensure precise, aesthetic, and long-lasting results. From numbing to sketching, pigmentation, and final check, several important steps ensure optimal results. Treatment duration varies depending on the area, usually 1.5 to 3 hours.
Numbing
To make the treatment as comfortable as possible, the relevant skin area is treated with a local anesthetic cream to reduce pain and ensure a relaxed procedure.
Sketching and Shape Check
Before pigmentation, the desired shape is drawn on the skin with a special pencil. The client receives a preview of the final result. Only after approval does the actual pigmentation begin.
Pigmentation of Desired Areas
The actual treatment starts with the application of color pigments into the upper skin layer using a fine device. Techniques vary by area:
- Eyebrows: fine hair strokes (microblading) or soft shading (powder brows)
- Eyelids: pigmentation along the lash line or decorative eyeliner
- Lips: contour enhancement or full shading for defined, even lips
- Medical PMU: hair, scar, or areola pigmentation to camouflage skin changes or bald spots
Pigmentation is applied in several layers to ensure even color uptake.
Check and Correction
After pigmentation, the result is checked. Minor corrections are made if necessary to achieve a perfect and even result.
To support healing and ensure the best result, various behavioral and care instructions (PDF) must be observed. Some treatments include or offer follow-up treatments on request.
Aftercare and Healing
The final effect of a PMU session becomes visible about a month later, when the skin has fully healed and color intensity slightly decreases. Clients are informed about proper care and the healing process and receive a leaflet (PDF) to take home.
We recommend avoiding direct sunlight and unnecessary sweating in the first few days, for example.
Follow-up & Touch-ups
Since pigments can change or fade slightly within the first weeks, some treatments include a follow-up after 4 to 8 weeks to optimize color intensity and shape. Additional touch-ups to perfect or strengthen the effect, which are not included, are offered with a 40% discount.
Touch-ups are available for all PMU treatments done by us, with prices as follows:
- Up to 12 months: 30% discount
- 12–24 months: 20% discount
- Over 24 months: full price
The durability of permanent make-up varies depending on skin type, care, and external factors. Usually, results remain visible for 2 to 5 years before a touch-up is recommended.
